The Union Ministry of Earth Sciences launched a mobile application named 'Mausam' for the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, i.e., 27 July, on the occasion of IMD's Foundation Day celebrations. The app is designed to communicate the weather information and forecasts to the general public. The Mausam app Is designed to forecast weather conditions of around 450 cities in India and show the weather forecast of the past 24 hours, as well as seven-day forecasts. The application is available at both Google Play Store and Appstore.
"This Mobile App is dedicated to the general public and designed to communicate the weather information and forecasts in a lucid manner without technical jargons," said the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences. The Mausam App is a result of a collaboration between ICRISAT's Digital Agriculture and Youth (DAY) Team, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, and IMD.
While the Meghdoot App was explicitly made for the farmers, the new Mausam App is for everyone." The now-cast feature of this app will tell you if there will be rain, thunder or any other severe weather in your area based on data from the nearest meteorological station. Otherwise, there will be city-based information and forecasts and even radar products," said M Rajeevan, secretary in the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
