Innovative Water Technologies addresses India's domestic sewage challenges with its FBTec unit, an advanced solution for "Wastewater Recycle and Reuse at Source". Designed per UN Decentralized Wastewater Treatment guidelines, FBTec enables communities to recycle wastewater locally, tackling urban water scarcity and sanitation issues. Developed through extensive on-site research, it combines innovation with proven methodologies to foster resilient urban ecosystems.
Founded by Bharat Gudi and Karthik Nayak, the company leverages experience from CMS Group and PR Infra. It acquired Fixed Bed Technology (FB Tech) from Nixie, endorsed by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. This cost effective, odorless system deploys rapidly (3-4 months) and offers an alternative to expensive centralized systems, serving urban bodies, Gram Panchayats, and industries. With India's urbanization surge, decentralized solutions like FBTec are vital for cost-effective, sustainable water treatment. Targeting sectors such as Indian Railways, real estate, and industrial clusters, the company aims for a 100 crore turnover within three years, distinguishing itself through compact, maintenance-free solutions focused on quality and customer satisfaction.
Comprehensive Service Portfolio
Innovative Water Technologies currently offers its flagship product, the FBTec sewage treatment plant, known for its efficiency in the decentralized wastewater domain. Adding to this, the company is also eyeing on expanding its portfolio to address wastewater challenges in high-potential sectors like textiles, tanneries, and slaughterhouses. These industries, with significant environmental impact and regulatory pressure from entities like the NGT and pollution control boards, present substantial opportunities.
India’s processed meat export market, valued at ₹45,000 crores, involves over 3,500 slaughterhouses, many lacking proper wastewater treatment. Furthermore, the tannery and textile industries also face growing compliance demands, making them ideal for tailored solutions. Additionally, Innovative Water Technologies is targeting sectors like oil and gas with complex effluent treatment needs. By focusing on industries with urgent waste water management requirements, the company aims to strengthen its market position and expand its product offerings.
Ensuring Utmost Quality Standards
Innovative Water Technologies is an ISO-certified company committed to Total Quality Management(TQM) across all its operations. Its manufacturing facility in Dharwad, in Karnataka state operates under stringent quality control processes, ensuring that every product adheres to the highest standards. With in-house manufacturing under one roof, the organization maintains full oversight and accountability for quality. In addition to internal quality assurance, it prioritizes compliance with regulatory norms. Wastewater treatment involves complex chemical processes where input wastewater, laden with impurities, must be treated to meet specific output standards.
These parameters are bench marked by external agencies such as the Pollution Control Board and other regulatory bodies. Furthermore, the company ensures strict adherence to these standards, both in the design of its processes and the performance of its products in the field. This dual focus on quality and compliance underscores its reliability and commitment to excellence in the water treatment industry. The company also boasts a very good record on safety at site and at factory operation with zero lost time, without accidents.
A Competent Team of Seasoned Professionals On Board
Innovative Water Technologies attributes its success to a skilled, experienced team. The leadership includes newly appointed CEO Shreepad Purkar, an engineering graduate specializing in process control instrumentation with management studies from IIM Bangalore. With 16 years as a CEO in the water and wastewater industry, including roles at Veolia’s subsidiary Pennar Enviro and Eurotech Enviro, he brings extensive expertise in techno-commercial and legal aspects, along with P&L management.
CTO Lalit Bajare, a chemical engineer, offers deep experience in wastewater process design, having worked with leading firms like Ion Exchange and companies in Singapore. The sales team, led by Deputy General Manager Prasad Muley (Chemical Engineer), includes Sales Manager Digvijay (Mechanical Engineer) and an eight-member nationwide team. Coordination between sales and execution is managed by Pranjali Itkikar, a Chemical Engineer with 12 years of field experience. Strategic partnerships with agents and channel partners complement this in-house talent, ensuring efficient operations and sustainable market growth.
Overcoming Pressing Challenges
India's water treatment industry faces significant challenges. Many view water as a public good, resisting the idea of paying for it and underestimating the looming scarcity crisis. Educating customers about environmental responsibility is crucial, especially given strict enforcement by authorities like the NGT and PCB. However, the market remains highly price-sensitive, demanding compliance without commensurate spending.
The company employs advanced solutions like FBTec, a patented fixed-bed sewage treatment system, streamlining nitrification and denitrification in a single tank. Endorsed by the Ministry of Jal Shakti after rigorous evaluation by bodies such as DRDO and IITs, FBTec operates in 50+ locations, improving public health by reducing waterborne diseases and healthcare costs. The company also revives dysfunctional plants, addressing odor and safety issues.
Robust Future Roadmap
Going forward, the future growth includes technology collaborations with European, Israeli, and U.S. partners for specialized industrial solutions and capacity augmentation in centralized STPs. Partnerships with IITs and IISc aim to commercialize innovative concepts, further strengthening their impact.
“Innovative Water Technologies is poised for significant growth by capturing a large share of India's packaged sewage treatment market, worth millions of units. The company is partnering with firms from Israel, the USA, and the UK to enter India's niche industrial wastewater sector. These collaborations are projected to boost revenue by 100 crore over three years from a single product, with total revenue expected to reach 300- 400 crore in five years through an expanded product range. Their model emphasizes selling standalone products with annuity-based service and maintenance, ensuring sustainable growth by offsetting fixed costs”, explained Shreepad Purkar, CEO, Innovative Water Technologies.
