Chandra Kumar Chettiar , Founder & CEOSemiconductors are the foundation for all modern electronic devices, driving a multi-billion dollar global industry propelled by technological advancements, consumer demands, and industrial applications. Nonetheless, the industry faces challenges including supply chain shortages, production facility limitations, technological complexities, environmental concerns, and a shortage of skilled labor. Therefore, choosing the right sourcing partner is crucial but challenging for a company's growth.

OptimusLogic Systems, a leading semiconductor company makes an indelible mark in the field proving to be an excellent partner to most electronics companies, including government sector. The company was founded on the premise of self-sufficiency to product development and it has even effectively formalized today. What started as a technology-driven solutions company in 2013 providing for the fast-growing Indian defence sector, engineering services, and IoT, has today made way into the Indian semiconductors space penetrating the product engineering market through smartphone manufacturing.

A leading provider of semiconductors, Optimus Logic Systems supplies indigenous defence electronics for Indian defence PSUs in Radio Communication, Radars & Avionics, and offers turnkey services in defence,Consumer Electronics, Industrial Automation, VLSI & Automotive systems. The company also develops custom solutions in Machine Learning, RF Modulation & Signal Processing in association with its academic partner, IIT Hyderabad. Especially, it innovation Dory, an in-house manufactured license-free long-range radio platform is the game-changer in the sub-GHz band for Voice, Data & IoT applications in Drones, Disaster Relief, Smart Cities, Farming, Fishing, Industrial Safety, Recreation, Security, and more.

Chandra Kumar Chettiar, Founder & CEO, OptimusLogic Systems says, “We have always dreamt of building products and getting into the mainstream product development. I started my career at Philips, and it was then I learnt that we need to build a system, enter the market, and then sell in large numbers, especially in electronics to get into the mainstream. Well, as the market expanded, we extended our services to other multinational corporations, assisting in chipset and product development. However, the breakthrough happened when Optimus Logic Systems got involved with the telecom ministry in 2022, to work along a very active group of like minded companies come together to create & help with the 5G revolution”.

The company received a project to build smartphones from the Indian telecom industry in 2022. With the 5G introduction making a big wave world over, when big
companies like Samsung and Apple didn't release a 5G phone for India, OptimusLogic Systems chose to make it happen. While the 5G transition, when all the huge companies chose not to drop down the value of 4Gs in the country, OptimusLogic Systems significantly took the lead and created the Optimus Rhino 5G, the only phone that worked seamlessly at 500Mbps when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G services on October 1, 2022. This led to a significant drop in the value of 4G phones as most people wanted to switch to 5G. And it was right then the strongest foundation got laid down for OptimusLogic Systems. The telecom ministry provided it with funds through the DCIS scheme, which is one of the fantastic schemes to have helped many companies bridge the gap between their capabilities and what's available in the market.

Chandra Kumar shares, “To date, the company's phone has been used for various government and defense applications but has not yet been introduced into the B2C market. We are working on a partnership with BSNL to assist in transitioning to 4G and 5G in India. Our semiconductor strategy aims to enter the mainstream market with larger chipsets. We are developing an indigenous SIM card called Arista for national security and a new chip called BISON (Bharat Integrated SoC for New-age compute)for the next generation of laptops and devices with unique ‘Chamundi’ ISA. This is our expansion plan so far”.

OptimusLogic Systems is known to have worked with companies like QuickLogic & Bharat Electronics, and also holds confidential partnerships with others such as QuickLogic, Micron, Toshiba, and Renesas. The company’s expertise lies in assisting these companies with taping out chipsets for memory and automotive purposes. Despite the market dominance of a few major players in the phone memory industry, its strong relationships with these companies have opened opportunities to work with larger corporations. Respectively, it has also invested in expensive tools to stay relevant in the semiconductor industry and is pursuing a significant project for a five-nanometer tape out.

Chandra Kumar shares, “Competition is beneficial for the market. We take pride in the fact that our expertise lies in end-to-end system design due to our work in defense electronics. We have the capability to develop products from concept to the finished product. Our unique selling point (USP) is this system design capability”. The expert team at Optimus Logic Systems has really made it through these years with dedication and a promising partnership with IIT Hyderabad. Regarding project management and technical skills, each team on this site is adaptable in its own way and all teams have the most competent project leads. This extent of diversification has enabled Optimus Logic to achieve brilliance of solution development and implementation.

Future Roadmap

In the years ahead, OptimusLogic Systems’ focus is to become a products company that manufactures smartphones. As a proud company to have built the first 5G phone in India, today it is promisingly expanding into the mainstream market, setting its foot into semiconductor manufacturing. Over the years, it has been assisting numerous companies in building chipsets, and now it aims to produce chipsets for mainstream products such as laptops, smartphones, and servers. This is the key area where Optimus Logic is concentrating, intending to set its vision for the next 5-10 years.

“Working with the government and defense sector has become easier due to advancements since 2013-2014, particularly after the creation of Indium. We produce our own Optimus Rhino Book laptops, built on Intel and AMD chipsets, and those are already being used in various government ministries and other places. However, our ultimate aim further is to build a complete defense system, starting with a phone and possibly expanding to radio systems. There are significant investments required with substantial R&D costs, but it is our priority to establish trust and expand into new areas gradually”, Chandra Kumar concludes.
