Bikas Jha, Country Head, RealNetworks1. What are some of the latest technologies driving the security industry and how are these advancements making the lives of consumers easier?

• Artificial Intelligence to enhance capabilities of existing human intelligence based systems, especially in the areas of live Video analytics of the captured videos via CCTV network. For example…

i. Facial Recognition software is helping law enforcement agencies to track anti-social elements, criminals & terrorists to from live videos in real time

ii. Intrusion detection system helping to track real time the security breach at the border areas, defence establishments, cantonment, airports etc.

iii. Automatic Number plate Recognition: helping to track the vehicles and offenders on road

iv. Natural Language Processing (NLP): NLP is helping security agencies in real-time information about the presence of sensitive audio conversation and analyse with stored data in much better and accurate way. Cyber agencies is getting more and more robust in talking cybercrime with NLP.

All above technologies reducing human intervention as they work on some algorithm and specialize and work better that humans for respective work. Technologies will help reduce human based errors and corruption in the system.

2. How is this industry powering itself in the Digital Age?

• Huge amount of data now available to companies for processing. This has become possible due to increase in social media adoption in this century. Governments have also been collecting data from citizens in last few years.
• Invention of GPUs (Graphic Processing units) over the CPUs which is over 1000 times better in rendering images and video have given companies to process above data quickly.
• Availability of affordable cloud storage and processing helping companies to focus in their core research & development and coping with global digital
• Affordable bandwidth is another key factor helping companies for connectivity and information sharing

3. What is the scope of influence by the union government’s initiatives like Make in India?

• Make in India can boost supply of HW for physical security, like servers, CCTV cameras, network equipment to start with. This will also help reduce dependencies on global supply which is mostly from China. Government is benefiting this segment by Digital India; an allocation of Rs. 3,073 crore to further research in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), among others & National Program on AI; set up by NITI Aayog at IIT Chennai. The research will focus to encourage
Big Data, cybersecurity and Robotics are some of the initiatives that will help promote Industry 4.0.

4. How businesses can benefit from Artificial Intelligence and Deeptech

• Some of the benefits of AI is already being enjoyed by business by...
• Chatbots for automated customer interaction
• Personalized shopping experience.
• Providing customers with personalised marketing increases engagement, helps generate customer loyalty and improves sales.
• Real-time customer engagements
• Converting large pool of junk data to useable Data by data engineering and data analytics
• Improvement in predicting customer behaviour
• Faster recruitment process using AI tools, etc.
• Relocating resources to new areas by implementing AI in conventional sectors

5. Where are we headed in terms of the future of the industry, market behaviour and technology advancements?

• Large scale use of AI and ML (Machine Learning) technology is imminent. Systems will improve by implementing AI, especially in the areas where large scale resources are required. Such areas like customer support centres, certain blue collar job in factories will see job losses; however at the same time new job avenues in data mining, data science, block chain technologies etc. will evolve.
• Healthcare will improve and become affordable by large scale use of AI based diagnosis and drug invention
• RPA (Robot Processing Automation) will be implemented in manufacturing reduce dependency on resources
• Improved data mining will make seller buyer experience more personalized and predictive sales will prosper

6. In this fast-paced urbanizing and technologically changing world, do you think that security, information & asset management requires collaboration between developed and emerging economies? If so, what steps is the country taking to drive the market and offer reliable services?

• In the next decades distances will reduce due to improves connectivity between countries. Cities will continue to grow in population and existing infrastructure will require drastic improvement to cope with growing population. The developed already having surplus resources will need vast markets for consumption. While the protectionism and competition for global alliances is at its peak, new world order will evolve to create balances between demand and supply. India being one of the larges consumer markets in the world will have to look at new collaborations for getting high technology from advance countries.

7. Being an industry expert yourself, what do you think are the opportunities awaiting in this market and how are these bringing strong business experience in the entire company’s life cycle? What is making it stand ahead in the market?

• Huge population and vast geography will require brining more and more intelligence to manage security and surveillance. Collection and use of existing data available with agencies will have to be digitalized and can be engineered for crime prediction in certain times and areas. Video analytics will improve more and new capabilities like , face and body matching, body painting, tattoo detection, vehicle detection based on color etc., large scale use of AI for traffic management, crowd control etc. Health care in India is sitting with huge amount of stored, physical data and by digitalization, this segment will become more capable to provide affordable healthcare to citizens.

8. On a concluding note, based on your robust industry experience and knowledge, what message do you want to put across to the readers/investors/business partners/start-ups/decision-makers?

• India has all potential to play a major role in the world of AI. What it needs is right skill in future resources in the field of Data Science, Data Engineer, Machine Learning and AI; availability of backbone and hardware for research and development for at least next five years. Industry based on AI will be self sufficient and will create large scale jobs after five years. Start-ups and industry leaders who will work towards solving citizen’s common problems by use of AI, will prosper in future.
