US-based software company Adobe has introduced Project Aero, a new augmented reality (AR) authoring tool and multi-platform system to design immersive creative content. The project enables designing of creative contents that blur the lines between the physical and digital worlds.
The company also announced that it is working with Apple to help designers and engineers build a platform for augmented reality.
Project Aero seeks to deliver a system for both developers and creatives to build simple AR scenes and experiences leveraging Apple’s ARKit. ARKit is a platform introduced by Apple to allow developers to integrate shared experiences, persistent AR experiences tied to a specific location, object detection and image tracking to make AR apps even more dynamic.

In a statement, the company said that it will add USDZ (a file format) support to Adobe Creative Cloud apps and services in collaboration with Apple and Pixar. Under the collaboration, designers will be able to create AR content using popular tools such as Photoshop CC and Dimension CC. The content so created can be converted into USDZ that can be natively consumed in the Apple ecosystem.
In another statement, the software firm said that it has partnered with 15 artists for The Festival of the Impossible. The festival to be held from June 8-10 is claimed to be the first large-scale immersive art exhibition celebrating artwork that explores the impossible during a 3-day festival in San Francisco June 8-10.
AR content development today requires a combination of creativity and technical skills. To deliver on the promise of AR requires a fundamental rethinking of what it means to create with new tools, technologies and interaction models. Over the course of more than 35 year history, Adobe has transformed the way content is created for print, web and mobile devices.
